Cloud Gaming
GDC is this week and the internets has been a buzz with a new service called OnLive. OnLive is using a cloud computing model for video games. Basically, a group of servers work together to run different processes and programs then send the data back to the user without the user having to install anything on their machine. OnLive claims that there is no lag with their service. I’m not doubting OnLive’s service, however the bottleneck will always be the user’s internet connection. Am I skeptical? Yes. Am I hopeful? Absolutely. If their claims are true this could lead to a brand new philosophy of how video games are created, published and marketed.
